Our Why
America spends more on healthcare than most nations. Still, our mothers are dying at far higher rates than mothers in other wealthy countries. For Black women, that risk is even higher. 84% of these deaths are preventable.
We can do better.
Our clients have a 100% survival rate.
Yours can too.
At Sweet Bee Services, we’ve proven another way is possible: every client we’ve supported has survived and thrived. You and your clients deserve the same outcome.
Behind every statistic is a mother’s story. Deanna’s is one of courage, survival, and advocacy. This is why we do this work.
“At my 36 week appointment, my doctor came in and told me I was going to the hospital, that I had preeclampsia, and that I wasn't leaving the hospital without a baby. She told me they would do everything they could to get me to 37 weeks but if my condition worsened there was nothing they could do but deliver.
I'm sharing my story so black mothers make it home to their children.” — Deanna Bobbi
How We’re Saving Lives
Doula care does not just support families. It saves lives. From conception through the postpartum weeks, the doulas we train deliver continuous, evidence-based, relationship-driven care: prenatal visits, on-call advocacy, postpartum recovery support, lactation guidance, the wrap-around care every family deserves and too few receive.
Research is clear. Doula care is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve health outcomes for both moms and babies. When Sweet Bee founder Leah Hairston saw the truth about reproductive inequity firsthand, she committed her life to changing it. Ten years and nearly 200 families later, her survival rate is still 100%.
Sweet Bee Academy trains doulas to show up at every one of these moments. Multiple prenatal visits, so every family walks into labor prepared. Continuous support through labor and delivery: comfort, encouragement, advocacy, even when a pregnancy ends in loss or stillbirth. Postpartum care in the earliest, hardest weeks: evidence-based infant care and lactation education, and a real map of the community and health resources available.
This is the work that ends preventable maternal mortality, one birth at a time. If reading this makes you want to be the one showing up in that room, we want to train you. Apply to Sweet Bee Academy.
Join Our Mission
Access expands when more doulas are trained and ready to serve. Through Sweet Bee Academy, we are on a mission to train 100,00 doulas.
Every doula we train is one more option for a family on Medicaid, one more name in the network, one more chance that no one gets turned away.
